Clearing Spitzer's Path

Schumer will get a position on the Finance Committee and will head the DSSC. Spitzer is the likely nominee for governor in 2006.

Schumer says he had no eye on the state house, but he advertised a lot in New York during his recent re-election campaign, even though he was cruising to victory (won by 50+, I believe).

Any thoughts on how he'll do with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committe?

And how about Spitzer? Future president?

But he's our bastard, and we need more like him.

  •  I like him alot for president (none / 0)

  •  I've been bitchin that the problem with Dems (4.00 / 2)

is not just message, it's that we need to grow a pair. Spitzer has a pair, and they are made of steel reinforced by concrete reinforced by more steel. Is there any other man who if you aer on Wall Street, and he's on the phone, you are already shitting in your pants?
  •  Gov. first, then President (none / 0)

Spitzer definitely needs a term as NY Governor first, why is the slimy Pataki in office anyway in a Democratic state?  It would be great to see Spitzer slap down the little whiner/adulterer Giuliani on his way to the White House.

I like the way Spitzer actually does something about corporate crime while the Bushies just keep slapping the wrists of their Kenny-boy pals.

Campaign posters showing the perps that Spitzer has put away would be a great contrast to the chummy relationship the Bush slimes have with all the rich repugs.

  •  Let's see how Spitzer (none / 0)

does as governor first before we start looking at additional offices. It's kinda like the diary regarding Obama. Let's let him work his new job as first term junior Senator from Illinois before talking about higher office, ok?

Spitzer isn't even Governor yet... though it is highly likely he will kick @$$ in 2006 and win easily... even against the troop-blaming Guiliani should he decide to run.

Let's see Spitzer do two terms in Albany, cleaning up the mess there... then let's talk again.

I'm glad to hear Schumer is out of the way. I figured something would be worked out but didn't know what. DSCC? Well he is a proven fund raiser. He has a sound base of support. We'll see how well he does working around the country on behalf of other candidates.

Finance committee for the Senator from NYC is a natural.

  •  Looking to the elections...Organize (none / 0)

I take every opportunity I can to push this...

I am trying to organize Progressive Democrats in New York. I am starting (this week) with an email newsletter (I actually have Brooklyn, Manhattan and General (non-Manhattan or Brooklyn) editions. The goal is sparking activism and organizing amoung us. I plug particular local clubs and meetups and highlight media and electoral issues. In just  a week of working on this I already have two offers from guest writers!

This all in the early stages, but I have ties with the Independent Neighborhood Democrats and the (now former) Kerry Campaign in Brooklyn and I am in the process of forging ties with Democracy for NYC. My wife and I are currently Democratic County Committee members and we want to recruit more progressives back into an active role in the Democratic Party.

If you are interested in at least being on the list for receiving the newsletter by email, let me know (go to my profile for my email) and let me know which edition you want. Hopefully, I can find places where there are groups of Kossacks, Deaniacs and other progressive Dems and hook them in clusters into democratic clubs. Then we can take our party and our nation back.

  •  Pataki (none / 0)

Pataki is governor because the NY Dems have historically refused to fight for Long Island and Upstate.

    Hopefully that is changing.

The NY Dems need to learn exactly what the national Dems need to learn.

  •  Spitzer WANTS to be governor (none / 0)

He has said this on several occasions, he has no designs on national office at this time, he is interested in pursuing the governorship.

(why don't people listen to the candidates?)

  •  Phone Home, Eliot (none / 0)

Spitzer would make a great governor. Guiliani and Pataki are both going to be hesitant to take a shot at the Gov-ship, if only because it puts them on the wrong path toward running in '08. But Schumer out of contention is great for Eliot, who knows how to win upstate and how to use the media to get things done. The interesting thing will be how major corporations line up when he runs...will they throw their weight behind a GOP opponent as payback or hope he wins so he'll vacate the NY AG office? In any event, NY state has had a Rep. Gov, State Denate and State House for years and it's starting to move ALL Blue. Thank freakin God.

  •  Great (none / 0)

This is great news.  Spitzer can get the nomination without any trouble now.  I think we need a guy like Spitzer in the Governor's seat.  He has balls and doesn't pull any puches.  Scores of CEOs will attest to that.  That being said what are his chances of beating Pataki.
