There are several reasons to find the Annapolis Middle-East Summit a non-starter. First, any attempt by the Bush Crime Family to be at all 'diplomatic' is facially ridiculous. Second, even if its host was not a completely flawed figure, the underlying reason for the Summit is doomed to failure for dozens of reasons, the first being that the State of Israel is never going to cede land for a State of Palestine. And, third, the participants in the Summit have absolutely no reason to trust each other farther than they could throw them.

This diary offers an analytic framework to determine whether "Bush Authoritarianism" or "Bushism" is an instance of a fascist ideology. It is a starting-point and not an end-point. It is hoped that it aides further discussion and research into the question.

This diary corrects a material omission on a front-page diary that neglects to mention the contribution made by John Dean to the scholarship on the subject of 'Authoritarianism' as applied to the current groups of Republicans in the White House and elsewhere.  

The US Supreme Court has essentially given a 'green-light' to the Bush Crime Family's torture program, also known as 'rendition', this morning with its denial of Khaled El-Masri's petition.

After listening to the hearings this afternoon, the one phrase that bothered me most is when Chairman Waxman referred to the State Department as 'enabling' Blackwater's bad behaviour; instead, the Chairman ought to have called it as it really is:

The US State Department is not merely 'enabling' Blackwater's illegality but is an active 'co-conspirator' in Blackwater's illegal behaviour.

There have been countless diaries over the past two years regarding whether the US or Israel, or US/Israel, will bomb Iran, and if so, when? I am hopeful that this diary does not turn into one of those that have already trod over this very worn field. Instead, this diary assumes that the attack on Iran is going to happen at some point between now and January 20, 2009, and does not concern itself with the details of which of the two states will commence the proceedings.

What I find lacking in any of the reading I have done on the subject is exactly what those hoping for an Iranian attack think will happen to the State of Israel once the Islamic Republic of Iran is bombed. The answer seems rather clear to me, and I do not believe that what I think will happen will be of any benefit to the State of Israel, of for the US.

With this week's Lieberman-Kyl Resolution passing quite easily through a Democratic Senate and a Democratic House, I am certain that next week's schedule will include a similar Resolution expressing the sense of Legislative Branch that Blackwater USA is in violation of 18 US Code Section 2331 et seq.

With his miserable body dripping with the blood and the suffering of the tens of thousands that he has killed, tortured, and maimed, the monkey-who-sometimes-walks-on-two-feet befouled the Italian marble walls in the United Nations General Assembly for roughly twenty minutes today.

While it is true that no one approached the rostrum it stood at and urinated on its leg, whilst it barked and made the gutteral sounds of the orangutan, many of the looks it was given, and the oh-so-silent pauses at its 'applause lines' spoke volumes about how the real world looked on this filthy murdering pig. This psychopathic war-criminal, this unstoppable killing machine, had the nerve to pretend that he is a supporter...no THE supporter...of human rights on the planet.

A number of diaries over the weekend wondered aloud about Senator Clinton and why she is so tremendously disliked. For some of us, the reasons are several, and giving the answers is growing tiresome since the ones asking the question have their mind set on the Junior Senator, without regard to anything one might say as an answer.

The filthy murderers in the Republican Party have successfully filled a Kansas cemetery with the dead from their illegal war and occupation of Iraq. This is quite a coup for Senate republicans who voted for the surge and continue to block opposition to their blood-bath by the opposition party and the people of America.

Over the past months, it has become quite apparent that things are not going to change in Washington.  Perhaps it is because of poor leadership, perhaps it is just too hard to change; the reason or reasons are not relevant to this Diary. Each summer, a small mid-western city named Winona, Minnesota has a Great River Shakespeare Festival. As with many of similar festivals, it relies on the support of the community and the various small businesses, and one or two larger corporate donors for its support.

In their quest for supporters, they use email to contact potential volunteers and contributors. Today, I received an email announcement that the Festival had invited a speaker to their 'Front Porch' series of speakers.
